when do i have to change my blade in my hockey skates ?

i play i ce hockey . and i go skating … i be on the ice 3 – 4 times a week
i have nike bauer xvi skates and they have a real small blade ..
is it true that the blade of your skate goes down everytime they get sharpened ?????????????????

It really depends on how often you get them sharpened.

You really don’t want to let the steel get below 1/4″ height. When the blade gets too short, you’ll start washing out on turns because the holder will catch the ice. That usually happens at the 1/4″ mark, depending on the holder style.

The other reason you don’t want to let the steel get too low is because getting comfortable with new steel will become more of an adjustment. Pucks might slide under your stick and you might shank shots because you are suddenly higher up off the ice with twice as much steel as you had previously.
