So far Scott Gomez is the only (USA born) Mexican in the NHL.

Could we see a player born and raised in Mexico in the NHL? Not anytime soon. Out of the nearly 109M people, they have just over 1200 players and 9 rinks. They have been a member of the IIHF for almost 25 years now.
They are currently ranked 38th in the world. Their Men’s team plays in Division IIB which includes China, New Zealand, Australia and a few other non-traditional hockey countries. I practiced with the New Zealand team while I was on my honeymoon a few years back. It is comparable to a weak NCAA D-III hockey.
