Hockey Mask Shield
Why armies today use a helmet around the top, sides and back of the head, but does not?
face or with a stainless steel plate with holes drilled through it for eyes and mouth, a Kevlar version of the hockey mask or even a shield polycarbonate transparent? The weight of adding a shield would certainly be negligible compared to a total weight of the hull, is if your other reason?
A slight consideration would not be used with a gas mask.
