Hockey Skates T Blades
Hi, uhmm i just wanted to ask what is the difference between Roller Blades And Inline hockey skates? please?
I’m an ice hockey player but since im in the Philippines i don’t get to play on the ice much but wanted to keep my train rolling on the tracks so i wanted to try off ice skating just wanted to know if there’s a difference between them cause there are only Roller blades here in the philippines so please help! much appreciated!
A point of terminology first.
There are two general types of roller skates: Inline (wheels in a row) and quad (wheels in a rectangle.
Rollerblade is one of the many brands of inline skates.
The most common inline skates are rec/fitness.
Inline hockey skates are one of the less common types.
Freestyle is another type.
If your goal is to stay fit for hockey, and cannot find inline hockey skates, you might want to look for Freestyle skates or recreational skates that can be rockered so that they behave more similarly to the rocker of the ice hockey skates.
If you cannot find skates that can be rockered (wheels shifted up to mimic the curve of an ice blade), a desperation move will be to get smaller wheels for the front and rear positions but that will make a much more agressive rocker.
P.S. Scott Olson saw a pair of very old, impractical, roller skates with the wheels in one row and decided that this would be good off season practice for his ice hockey, bought the rights to the patents, and created the Rollerblade company. You are in good company
