Can someone explain the best way to win a Face off in Ice Hockey. (Junior Ice Hockey)
Also why do Linesman thrown you out of the hash marks sometimes?
Is it better to have your stick on the ice or in the air?
Is it allowed for me to throw my skate in there?
What would be the best way to hold the stick?
My win rate is 30% nowhere near where I need to be .

i am a pro, and i can tell you the best way to win a draw depends one situation you as a team are in.
on the power play in the offensive zone, you want to win the puck back to your d man, so he can slow down the play giving your team time to set up. to do this all you need to do is make sure when you line up you place your stick on the back hand on the proper side of the ice you need. the key is to place you stick down first this way it doesnt force you to have to take the draw forehanded, yet still try to win it back handed. so you get there first on your back hand. leaving the stick on the ice, you dont watch the ice or the guy your facing off against, you watch the refs hands. an objust falls at 9.8 meters per second once its hit terminal velocity, therefore if the ref is dropping the puck from 3 feet up, it will only take.33 a second to fall. far too little time to pick up mid way down and try to win. by watching his hand, you can time your swipe in the back hand as he drops it. it allows you to time it perfectly, winning it back and setting up in the zone.
if you are short handed in their zone, you want to watch the refs hand again, and you want to tie the puck up, or win it forward so you can kill time or score.
short handed in your zone you can win in back same way you would before so that they can clear cleanly.
even strenght, you want to win it to a winger, or back to a d man same as before.
to win it to a winger you want to just watch the refs hand a chip it to the wing you want to go to. your winger should pick it up and hopefully beat his man.
hope it helps. practice makes perfect. ask another center on your team to take draws with you, have the coach tell you where he wants the puck won, back, forward, or wing. and see how it goes.
