Mission Inline Roller Hockey Skates
Can I use inline hockey skates such as Missions or Bauers for recreational skating?
I want to get inline skates for recreational skating. Things I want are comfort, smooth ride, maneuverability, and speed. I will be skating indoors and outdoors, but not frequently, let’s say once a week. I would get normal skates, but I really like the looks of the hockey skates.
I was wondering if I can get inline hockey skates and use them as recreational skates. Money is not an issue, I am looking at missions or bauers in the 200-300 range though. Also if you have recommendations regarding a particular inline skate from mission or bauer that can be used as a recreational skate let me know.
As for my experience, I’m 25 years old. Back in middle school I was very good at roller blading with a cheapo pair of skates I had. Now just trying to get back into it so i can get exercise, but since I always liked the way hockey roller skates looked I’m wanting to use those instead of regular recreational skates.
Technically it wouldn’t be a problem as such. It wouldn’t be the easiest thing either. Hockey skates have hard wheels, as they are meant to be used on a smooth surface, so you’ll feel the bumps in the surface, plus the wheels are quite small, so it’ll take more effort to keep yourself going at a reasonable speed. Seeing as most skates are made with a maximum wheel size, this will be something you can’t really change. Besides that , recreational skates come with a flat set up, which is the easiest, most stable set up, something you would want since you haven’t skated in a while. On a hockey skate the wheels are rockered, meaning only two wheels make contact with the ground, which wheels depends on the position of your foot. It provides more maneuverability, but its harder to keep ur balance. There’s no brake on a hockey skate either, and you can’t fit one.
You could buy normal skates, then easily rocker them or put smaller wheels on if u want. It would be much easier to do it this way, and they will be quite good as hockey skates. But then again, you could go straight with hockey skates, you’ll make life much more difficult for yourself though, especially because you’ll want to use them for exercise, it’s going to be a mission taking them through bumps or uphill . Remember to wear pads.
